Throwback Thursday to a session from a while back. I love these images because she just glows. She had the perfect reason to do boudoir – to celebrate herself as she heads into marriage.
What happens when you open an AirBNB that you get to design from every aspect? You immediately shoot a session there because you’re obsessed with the colors you’ve chosen. I have always enjoyed interior decorating, but being able to do whatever I wanted with the master bedroom of this place just made me SO happy.
A huge thank you to this sweet lady for letting me share a few of her images. She’s the first and only client that will have had her session done in this space. This house was an awesome project that I’m so glad I got to be a part of for the last year, but I’m grateful for the next phase of focusing on my photography again. 🙂
Something I have been working hard on is getting multiple shots out of one pose and this session gave me the opportunity to really put that practice to use! One of my favorite new things that I offer is a desktop acrylic triptych and it is GORGEOUS. While you can do whatever you want with the image placement, I personally adore the almost stop-motion effect that doing multiples of the same pose can create.
I told you there was more amazing-ness to behold. This babe is seriously a badass. I loved her session SO much that I made a sample album of it (photos to come!). About halfway through the session, we switched gears and went into full blown fierce mode. You can see for yourself!
You can see the first half of B’s session here.
Something magical happens when you get together with another photographer and just let your creativity feed off of each other. I absolutely ADORE Michelle Coppini of Remnant Boudoir and together, we traveled to New Orleans for a photographer’s retreat to revive our love for our art and enjoy the beauty and culture that NOLA has to offer.
While there, we found an AirBNB gem to stay in and use as a studio and it did NOT disappoint. Even if it was a little scary to stay in overnight (hello horror movie fireplace and lighting). It was fine, though. LOL.
The best part of it was using it to shoot in. I got SO much that I’m splitting it up into multiple blog posts. Because…y’know…anticipation and stuff. And it’s too much AMAZING to fit in one post!
I don’t think that there are words in the English dictionary that can describe what this woman means to me. She is beautiful, wicked talented, brave, strong, compassionate and understands me on a level that few could ever dream to. I never wanted a “wifey” t-shirt until I met this girl. As far as friends go, she is my soulmate. My number one. I can count on one hand the people that I can turn to in any given moment and she is among those five.
I believe that we have different best friends at different times in our lives. That doesn’t mean that previous best friends mean any less or that future best friends mean any more. It’s simply a matter of where you are in life. This girl, though, is one of those that I’ll still be calling “nerd” when we’re racing down the hallways in our wheelchairs when we’re 80. She’s one of the ones that speaks up when I need to suck it up, but she’s also one of the ones that will let me feel sorry for myself and have a pity party every one in a while, too.
She is the one that I can cuss like a sailor around and make awful jokes with and know that she will never take offense. She will quote movies with me. We make fun of each other even over the “off-limits” kind of stuff. She’s the one that knows my love language is gif wars and lets me shower her with presents because that’s how I show the people I care about them. She fights me over the check every time, but doesn’t keep track. She’s the one that will watch scary movies with me without begging and will jump at the same time with me, even when we know exactly when the jump scare is coming.
And then there is the fact that she is a fellow artist. She understands a part of me that few get. So, when she asked me to take her photos for all of her comic-con appearances, I about lost my mind. The best part is that we had the exact same vision. When you get a chance, go take a look at her work. I know you’ll fall in love just as I did: ScerdyBoards.
It has been a busy, busy, BUSY over the last few months, y’all. So busy that my head is spinning. I am NOT complaining, though! Haha! I am loving every single day of this craziness and I’m super grateful for the opportunities that have been coming my way.
I figured it was time for an update that tells you all just what has been going on around here, so here goes. 🙂
First off, I have been shooting like crazy. I have so many sessions that I can’t wait to share with you! Because of the holidays, I have been more focused on getting those images out the door that I have been neglecting my dear readers a little bit, but I promise to make it up to you. I have some GOOOOOOD stuff for you. Trust me.
Next, I opened an AirBNB/Event Space with one of my best friends and it turned out gorgeous. I got to do all of the interior decorating, which means that I turned it into the ultimate shooting space (even though it is meant for little girls). We’re calling it The Unicorn Vault and it’s available for anything you can imagine. Tea parties, birthdays, baby showers, slumber parties, even long and short term rentals. It’s a private home, so it offers an element of coziness that you don’t get at other places. It’s all things pink, luxurious, soft and, of course, unicorn. The best part for me, though, is that the master bedroom and bathroom are styled PERFECTLY to be used as a space for me to photograph boudoir sessions. You heard that right. If you want something different than what my home studio offers, you can rent The Unicorn Vault on an hourly basis for a completely different look. So, if you want color and drama, this is the perfect space for your photos. See?
Last, but definitely NOT least. I just got back from an amazing boudoir photography retreat in New Orleans. Besides the fact that NOLA and I are not friends (they towed my car, y’all!), I still had a great time and got some incredible photographs. Since I was surrounded by boudoir photographers, I had to take the opportunity to be photographed, myself. And I had THREE sessions done while I was out there. Let me tell you, my wallet hurts, but it was 100% worthwhile to me. The confidence boost that comes from seeing yourself this way is so empowering. And I can’t preach it if I don’t practice it, right? I’m so excited to show y’all the results of those sessions and introduce you to a couple of really amazing artists at the same time. But not only did I get photographed, I got to get out of my comfort zone and do some photographing, too. NOLA offers so much character and beauty that I couldn’t just leave my camera home. No way.
If you’re a boudoir photographer and you’re not a part of the Association of International Boudoir Photographers, you are missing out. The online community is great, but when you meet these people in real life, the connections and bonds created are so good for the soul.
You know those people that you instantly become super good friends with? This woman and I clicked so fast it made my head spin! She is a BIG part of the body positivity movement, has her own business (go check out Hyp Kandy right now!), and has such an incredibly beautiful heart. Truly, she is a force to be reckoned with and we’re already brainstorming like crazy. She will instantly brighten your day and has this way of just making you feel important. It is a privilege to work with women, but it’s an honor to have worked with T.
One of the things that just really moved me was how easily T fell into the emotion work that we did. She let me lead her through the different emotive states and really poured herself into the process, which resulted in an incredible experience. We shot for so long, but it felt like just a few minutes, and it was almost impossible for me to choose which images were the best.
I’m really excited to show these off, but I’m even MORE excited to do an interview with T so that you get the opportunity to get to know her, her business and what drives her to be a part of the self-love movement.
There is something so freeing about outdoor boudoir. The empowerment that comes from being outdoors and being strong and confident in a way that society tells us is not ok unless you’re a celebrity can be overwhelming. It’s a special kind of freedom and it’s a type of experience that I want for every one of my clients – whether their whole session is inside or outside or a blend of both.
I told you that some really amazing images were coming your way and here they are!
Although “boudoir” typically means “of the bedroom”, I personally think that the genre has evolved to mean more than that. When I think of boudoir photography, I think of images that make you feel beautiful, whether that is in a lingerie set, a cocktail dress, a sweater and leggings, or jeans and a tshirt. Ultimately, the point of boudoir is to empower you. It’s meant to make you see yourself in a different light. While “mom”, “wife”, “girlfriend”, “boss”, “coworker”, “sister”, “daughter”, etc. are ALL meaningful and special roles, we often forget that we are more than that. We are more than something to someone. We need to be something to ourselves, too. We need to own ourselves and remember that we are beautiful, powerful, impactful. We are desirable REGARDLESS of what is on our bodies.
This gorgeous girl wanted pictures for her college graduation that were casual, but still had an element of “oomph”!
