Get ready to drool… | The Exquisite Sessions | Fort Walton Beach Boudoir Photographer

I’m a tangible type of person. I love the look and feel of luxurious products. If I’m paying money for something, I want it to be high quality. Well, let me tell you, I found QUALITY for my albums and my USB delivery system. Luxury. The kind of paper, fabrics, materials that you just want to oooooh and aaaaaahh over. I finally took some photos of the GORGEOUS things you can purchase after your session and I hope that you’re just as obsessed with them as I am.

Head’s up: You can come see and touch for yourself on April 29, 2017 at the Mother’s Day Expo at Uptown Station where I will be showing off my work for all to see. This is a great opportunity for you to come meet me, too. Get to know the artist behind the art. 🙂 Why Mother’s Day? Because I want to remind every woman that has kiddos that she is MORE than just momma. She is a goddess worthy of adoration.

Collective OOOOOoooooohHHHHHhhhs and AAAAAaaaahhhhhHHHhhhs now, y’all. 😉

B | Exquisite Sessions | Destin Boudoir Photographer

Something magical happens when you get together with another photographer and just let your creativity feed off of each other. I absolutely ADORE Michelle Coppini of Remnant Boudoir and together, we traveled to New Orleans for a photographer’s retreat to revive our love for our art and enjoy the beauty and culture that NOLA has to offer.

While there, we found an AirBNB gem to stay in and use as a studio and it did NOT disappoint. Even if it was a little scary to stay in overnight (hello horror movie fireplace and lighting). It was fine, though. LOL.

The best part of it was using it to shoot in. I got SO much that I’m splitting it up into multiple blog posts. Because…y’know…anticipation and stuff. And it’s too much AMAZING to fit in one post!

Let’s Talk Lingerie | Exquisite Sessions | Fort Walton Beach Boudoir Photography

Let’s Talk Lingerie: Bustiers vs. Corsets – What’s The Difference?

Ok, let’s be honest, shall we? None of us know the difference between a bustier and a corset or a teddy versus a romper. So, I figured we should get down to the nitty-gritty and what flatters what body type. First part of this series will be about the differences between different kinds of lingerie. The second part of this series will be dedicated to how mix and match different styles to create different looks. Fashion can be so much fun when you know what things are called and how they work!

Bustiers

Bustier is pronounced boo-stee-yay.

Bustiers

The key feature of a bustier is that it has a built-in bra. Bustiers are usually shorter than a corset and are often referred to as long-line bras. You’ll find most bustiers are fastened like a standard bra with hook-eye-closures and usually have some form of boning to add structure to the piece.

Corsets

Corsets

Corsets are typically more meant for waist-cinching. They cover from the hip to either just under the bust (underbust) or just over the bust (overbust). Usually, a corset will lace together in the back so that it can adjust (tighten and loosen) where needed.

Blended Fashion

As with everything in fashion, styles are often blended into hybrid pieces. You’ll see fashion corsets that are less expensive and include hook-and-eye closures to create ease for putting it on. Some include zippers that once fitted, it’s simply a matter of slipping it on.

Bustiers are a go to if you already have an hourglass shape or a defined waist. If you’re looking to pull in some of your tummy, though, the corset is going to be your best bet. Which would you shop for? Personally, I LOVE a corset!

It’s About More | Exquisite Sessions | Fort Walton Beach Boudoir Photographer

DJ Hunter - Dangerously Delicate

There is a resounding theme among purveyors of the art of boudoir. You’ll find that there is a vast majority that attach the genre to a concept of taboo-ism. That it’s meant to be a “your eyes only” project for a significant other. However, there is so much more to what a boudoir session can accomplish. Sure, it’s a great gift for someone else. It’s an even better gift for yourself, though.

Our society, our culture, our media, our advertising – all of it is centered on one theme: you’re not good enough as you are.

This makeup get rid of your wrinkles!

This crème gets rid of your dark spots!

Don’t have freckles? Here’s how to get them!

Your lashes are too short. Try this extension!

You need to lose or gain weight. Drink this magic potion and your life will change!

Here’s the thing, though. All of that stuff? It’s a cover up. It’s a mask. We’re given an ideal and we’re expected to conform to it. And I’m not JUST talking about women. I’m not JUST talking to the curvy girls. I’m talking about humanity as a whole. You have to be sassy, but not bossy. You have to be demure, but not weak. You have to be cute, but not childish. You have to firm, but not demanding. You have to be confident, but not too much or you’ll be labeled conceited.

When does that stop? Where is the line? Who says how far you have to go to get where society says that you *fit* all the sudden?

There’s something that transpires during a boudoir or beauty session (because it doesn’t ONLY happen when you take your clothes off!). When you have a photographer who knows the insides and outs of posing, of lighting, of body language, they’re able to show you the light that radiates from within. We’re so critical of ourselves that we don’t see it. The majority of the time, we look in the mirror and tear ourselves apart. But when you sit down across from a stranger, do you tear them apart in your mind? Are you thinking about how one ear is a little higher than the other? How their cowlicks are obvious and annoying? What about that muffin top that comes out when they’re sitting down? Or whether their shoes match their purse? How about how straight their teeth are?

NO! So, why do we do it to ourselves???

It starts with you. It starts with making the conscious decision every morning to love yourself where you’re at.

Am I saying makeup is bad? NO. Am I saying you shouldn’t strive to be better than you were yesterday? NO. I AM saying that at some point, you have to wake up from the brainwashing and realize that our appearances don’t dictate what we deserve. We ALL deserve love. We ALL deserve respect. We ALL deserve to look in the mirror and love what we see.

There are no two bodies exactly alike. Maybe I love my hands, but you think your fingers are short and stubby. Maybe you love your legs, but I think mine are disproportionate. Our standards, though, begin with us. By attacking the subconscious rules that we have created for ourselves, we can live a happier life. When you’re not focused on everything being perfect, all the sudden, you have the capacity to see more than yourself.

So, start today. When you look in the mirror, pick something you love and compliment it. I don’t care what it is or where you start.

“Wow, my eyes really sparkle when I’m happy.”

“My ankles are just right.”

“My abs are on point today!”

“My hair looks amazing.”

Why do this? Positive reinforcement for yourself radiates out to those around you. And we need all the positivity we can get right now. SEE yourself with someone else’s eyes. SEE those around you and what makes them special and beautiful (or handsome).

Next? I want you to compliment someone every day (if you leave the house, in person. if you don’t, online). Think about how your words impact others. Try thinking positive. Even something as simple as telling someone you love their shirt! Not only does it make them feel good, it makes YOU feel good!

I can help you see yourself. I can show you that you are a stunning, formidable creature that deserves everything their heart desires. I see you and I see exactly how to highlight your best features. I know how to pull out your best smile – the one that comes out when you’re unabashedly happy. I know how to show you the fierce, badass babe that we all have locked up deep down. I can take you to the core of vulnerability and teach you that the place is a place of healing and wonder and power. I will take your insecurities and help you toss them out the window so that you can move forward as a strong, empowered, force to be reckoned with.

You deserve that. Believe that you are worthy of living your life the way you want to. Even if you have to fake it until you make it, someday you’ll realize that it’s finally true for you. And that day? It is a GOOD day.

Let me walk this path with you. I promise I will hold your hand the whole way. I will root for you and I will fight for you. Let’s do this together!

P.S. That badass babe up there? That’s ME. Thank you DJ for reminding me that I am gorgeous. You da best! If you want to see more of my very own session that I had done, you can see it here: http://princephotographyllc.com/mandas-bedroom-eyes/

New Orleans Boudoir Retreat | Exquisite Sessions | Fort Walton Beach Boudoir Photographer

It has been a busy, busy, BUSY over the last few months, y’all. So busy that my head is spinning. I am NOT complaining, though! Haha! I am loving every single day of this craziness and I’m super grateful for the opportunities that have been coming my way.

I figured it was time for an update that tells you all just what has been going on around here, so here goes. 🙂

First off, I have been shooting like crazy. I have so many sessions that I can’t wait to share with you! Because of the holidays, I have been more focused on getting those images out the door that I have been neglecting my dear readers a little bit, but I promise to make it up to you. I have some GOOOOOOD stuff for you. Trust me.

Next, I opened an AirBNB/Event Space with one of my best friends and it turned out gorgeous. I got to do all of the interior decorating, which means that I turned it into the ultimate shooting space (even though it is meant for little girls). We’re calling it The Unicorn Vault and it’s available for anything you can imagine. Tea parties, birthdays, baby showers, slumber parties, even long and short term rentals. It’s a private home, so it offers an element of coziness that you don’t get at other places. It’s all things pink, luxurious, soft and, of course, unicorn. The best part for me, though, is that the master bedroom and bathroom are styled PERFECTLY to be used as a space for me to photograph boudoir sessions. You heard that right. If you want something different than what my home studio offers, you can rent The Unicorn Vault on an hourly basis for a completely different look. So, if you want color and drama, this is the perfect space for your photos. See?

Last, but definitely NOT least. I just got back from an amazing boudoir photography retreat in New Orleans. Besides the fact that NOLA and I are not friends (they towed my car, y’all!), I still had a great time and got some incredible photographs. Since I was surrounded by boudoir photographers, I had to take the opportunity to be photographed, myself. And I had THREE sessions done while I was out there. Let me tell you, my wallet hurts, but it was 100% worthwhile to me. The confidence boost that comes from seeing yourself this way is so empowering. And I can’t preach it if I don’t practice it, right? I’m so excited to show y’all the results of those sessions and introduce you to a couple of really amazing artists at the same time. But not only did I get photographed, I got to get out of my comfort zone and do some photographing, too. NOLA offers so much character and beauty that I couldn’t just leave my camera home. No way.

If you’re a boudoir photographer and you’re not a part of the Association of International Boudoir Photographers, you are missing out. The online community is great, but when you meet these people in real life, the connections and bonds created are so good for the soul.

T | Exquisite Sessions | Fort Walton Beach Boudoir Photography

You know those people that you instantly become super good friends with? This woman and I clicked so fast it made my head spin! She is a BIG part of the body positivity movement, has her own business (go check out Hyp Kandy right now!), and has such an incredibly beautiful heart. Truly, she is a force to be reckoned with and we’re already brainstorming like crazy. She will instantly brighten your day and has this way of just making you feel important. It is a privilege to work with women, but it’s an honor to have worked with T.

One of the things that just really moved me was how easily T fell into the emotion work that we did. She let me lead her through the different emotive states and really poured herself into the process, which resulted in an incredible experience. We shot for so long, but it felt like just a few minutes, and it was almost impossible for me to choose which images were the best.

I’m really excited to show these off, but I’m even MORE excited to do an interview with T so that you get the opportunity to get to know her, her business and what drives her to be a part of the self-love movement.

W | Exquisite Sessions | Fort Walton Beach Boudoir Photography

There is something so freeing about outdoor boudoir. The empowerment that comes from being outdoors and being strong and confident in a way that society tells us is not ok unless you’re a celebrity can be overwhelming. It’s a special kind of freedom and it’s a type of experience that I want for every one of my clients  – whether their whole session is inside or outside or a blend of both.

I told you that some really amazing images were coming your way and here they are!

S & C | Exquisite Sessions | Fort Walton Beach Couples Photography

Sometimes I get to hang out with some of my favorite people (looking at you, Britt & Kayla!). While visiting New Mexico, we went out and found some stunning vistas and did a double shoot. A set for a beautiful couple and a boudoir set (which is coming soon!). I seriously can not get enough of the beauty that is the mountains. There is something just so peaceful about the vistas. Even though New Mexico is not home, the views were nostalgic for me, so these images have a special place in my heart.
